PGS constructed the Poetry Yurt in a grove of trees on the Gabriola Commons in 2009, as a cultural space intended for non-profit artistic, cultural and community activities.

The Poetry Yurt is primarily a workspace for artists to research and create new projects — to support artistic development, with a focus on process rather than a commercial end product.
PGS operated it for many years as a unique, delightful venue for workshop, rehearsal and performance, along with meetings and teaching events.
PGS donated the Poetry Yurt to the Commons in 2025, which now owns and operated the venue. Info on use and rental is on this page.
Description
The Yurt is 8.5m (28 ft) in diameter. The floor area of about 56 sq m (600 sq ft) is tiled with sprung, dance-friendly wood. The fire occupancy limit is 30 people. It is heated in winter with a wood stove.
There is ample parking with direct access to the Yurt, which is wheelchair accessible via a grass path, boardwalk and French doors.
